It’s that time of year again, school is just around the corner. Whether you’re dreading it, or you’re praying for it; you need to be ready, and that means making sure that you’re car is ready for it too. If you spent all summer driving to and from work, going on road trips, or just doing basic daily driving; your car is probably ready for some upkeep. Here are a few things you can do to make sure you’re ready to roll when the time comes:
Stock The Car: Do something that future you will thank you for: stock your car with all the essentials needed in case of emergency. Make sure to have jumper cables, a flashlight, and an auto safety kit at the very least.
Change Your Oil: Do you remember the last time you changed the oil in your car? If not, it’s definitely time to make an appointment with your local auto service technician and get your oil changed. (Pro Tip: The average vehicle requires an oil change every 4000 to 6000 miles)
Add Fluids: Check all of the fluid levels in your car: Engine oil, windshield wiper fluid, power steering fluid, and coolant all need to be checked and refilled if they’re running low. Running out of any of this can cause plenty of headaches later on down the road.
Check Your Tires: The last thing anyone needs is a tire that’s balding or blistering. Do a quick check on your tires every week or two to make sure that they aren’t distressed or worn down. If you’re unsure of how to check, just try the penny test. Place a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head facing down, if you can see the top of his head then it’s time to get those tires replaced as driving on them can result in a blowout.
Inspection: If you’ve gone through the checklist, but you’re not sure if you’re missing anything, take your car to a local mechanic and ask them to give it a thorough inspection. They’ll find anything you missed, and even if you didn’t miss anything, you’ll still have added peace of mind knowing that everything is running the way it’s supposed to.
