Use these Tips & tricks to avoid breaking down in the summer heat.

Summer is finally here and that means it’s time to get ready for backyard barbecues, pool parties, summer camping trips, and so much more. Whether you’re dusting off the grill for the first time since last summer, or cleaning out the pool for the kiddos, you need to make sure that everything is good so that everyone has a great time.

One thing that you may have overlooked while getting ready for that summer fun, is your car. Just like all of the other things that you need to take care of, your car needs some TLC as well. Neglecting to get your car ready for summer can lead to some disastrous consequences down the road. Here are some hot tips to keep your car in peak condition this summer:

  • Check And Refill Fluids: Check all of the fluids in your car before heading off on your summer road trip. This one is a no-brainer, and takes just a few minutes. Checking your fluids, and adding what’s needed is s sure-fire way to avoid being stranded on the side of the road when you’re supposed to be at the theme park with the family.
  • Keep Your Engine Cool: Your cooling system should be flushed at different points throughout the year, as recommended by vehicle manufacturers. Flushing the system and adding new coolant will help make sure your car is road-worthy during these hot summer months.
  • Protect Your Battery From Added Wear & Tear: Batteries are one of the most important components of your car, but also one of the easiest to harm. Heat and vibration can do a bit of damage to your battery, make sure it’s securely mounted in its position to reduce vibration. Regularly checking and cleaning corrosive buildup around the battery terminals can also increase its lifespan.
  • Prepare For The Worst: Even if you’ve dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s, you can still end up on the side of the road. Be prepared by putting an emergency kit in the car with tools and a first aid kit. Carrying a gallon of water in the trunk and some coolant in case of emergencies is also a smart precaution to take.
