The new 2019 Nissan Altima is slated to take back the mid-size sedan industry with a slew of ambitious upgrades, including a new turbo engine and 4-wheel drive options to handle rain and snow conditions like a crossover. At first look, this sportier 2019 edition takes the popular Altima sedan and injects improved styling, with a longer profile that is sharper and sits lower to the ground.
This sleeker edition can be partially attributed to the lower profile engine, which allows for a lower hood and roof. Next, the wheelbase was stretched by almost 2 inches in depth and an inch in width. Both these design changes gives the 2019 Nissan Altima a ground-hugging appearance without reducing the true ground clearance. Look for these other improvements that are sure to make the Nissan Altima the sedan of 2019:
While the standard Altimas will feature a 2.5-liter, 4 cylinder inline engine, it has still went through heavy revisions such as increasing the output to 188 horsepower at 6000 rpm (up from 179hp) and an 3 lb per foot torque increase to 180 lb-ft (at 3600 rpm). Along with the turbo-four option, both engines are quieter, have less vibration, and are more compact than earlier models.
If you decide to step up to the V-6 engine, well it has been replaced by the turbocharged inline-four with 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque - now that's a powerful sedan. Owners who opt for the sporty SR model or top-of-the-line Platinum have these power-added engine options. Either way, both engines incorporate Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable transmission to optimize engine rpms depending on driving conditions.
Nissan is leading the pack when it comes to recognizing the consumer's desire for safety and automation features that make driving a breeze, and the 2019 Altima is packed with an impressive list:
Additionally, drivers can relax with adaptive cruise control that automatically adjusts the vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead and optionally, Nissan's ProPilot Assist will be available. This feature uses sensors and multiple cameras to keep the vehicle safely in its lane.
In addition to exceptional handling, high on any car buyer’s list is comfort features. Owners will have a choice of new interior colors and this newest model has a much roomier cabin and more streamlined dashboard instrument panel. The instrument cluster is brightly detailed on the 7.0 inch screen, while additional features stand alone on an 8.0-inch touchscreen for easy access to standard offerings like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, or options such as Siri Eyes Free, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Google Assistant voice recognition.
"According to Nissan, "Our goal with the all-new Altima is to re-energize the sedan segment – in terms of design, driving feel and in making advanced technologies available and affordable for everyone... We want to energize drivers, helping make their lives safer, less stressful and more exciting."
